Washington at Orlando , Washington Wizards (+12,5) @1.952
I like the way the Wizards are playing right now. They are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games and they didn’t play only against lowly teams. In their last 4 games they faced 4 top clubs: Houston, New Orleans, Boston and Cleveland, with they just having one letdown: it was in Boston, but remember that the spot was terrible for the Wizards, as Boston wanted a bounce back in the first home game after their horrendous west coast road trip and the Wizards had played back to back games in the West against Houston and New Orleans. Despite that loss the Wizards were competitive in all the other games and I expect them to be in here as well.
The key for this turnaround was some smart moves in the lineup provided by their coach: PG Mike James is now a starter and he is a veteran shooter, always a threat when he’s isolated, but it is in the frontcourt where the Wizards are a much improved team: Andray Blatche and Dominic McGuire are young athletic big men and the Wizards actually outrebounded the Cavs in their last game by an impressive mark of 52-35.
Meanwhile, Orlando lost in Toronto 102-108 in a weird game where the Raptors even without Jose Calderon and Jermaine O’Neal managed to win despite the 39 points scored by Dwight Howard. Of course they will be fired up to make a bounce back tonight, but I think that 12.5 points is too much for tonight’s game. Orlando like the other top teams in the East (Boston and Cleveland) is having a bit of a letdown lately and remember that they covered the spread against Miami at home, but that game was a ballgame and only late in the game the Magic gained some advantage.
Orlando has already defeated the Wizards twice this season in two blowout wins: 105-90 and 106-81, with both games being played in November when the Wizards were a pathetic team. I expect a lot of heart and better play from the Wizards tonight. I have also to say that the Magic will play tomorrow against Atlanta and this game is an anticipated revenge game for Orlando. Rashard Lewis asked if there was any added incentive with the Hawks spoiling the Magic's season opener back on Oct. 29:
"It's going to be important," Lewis said.
I expect a huge effort from the Wizards against a team who will play the minimum to secure the victory as they have a much important game on the desk tomorrow against Atlanta. Take the Wizards in here.
Minnesota at Memphis , Over 194 @1.952
We have today a rare spot where two lowly teams are coming to a game in a good mood; Memphis defeated Dallas 102-82 and snapped an impressive 13 games losing streak against Dallas and Minnesota for the first time won two games in a row this season. It was against Golden State and Chicago on the road, so it’s a fact that we will see two confident teams on the court tonight.
Memphis had some problems to score lately, but it’s important to say that they played against Phoenix, San Antonio and Dallas in the last 3 games, so they will a much easier task tonight at scoring against a team that allows 102.6 ppg (7th worst). I’ve found a powerful trend for Memphis: the OVER is 7-0 when Memphis is a home favorite this season.
Meanwhile, Minny has regained their confidence lately, as they are 6-1 ATS last 7 games and scored plus 100 points on the last 4 games, in fact if that horrible letdown in Dallas didn’t occur, they would have won the last 4 games, impressive! For this team I’ve found a powerful trend for Minny favoring a high scoring game: they are 10-0 OVER off a road win over the last 2 seasons!
Both teams have already faced each other last week and Minnesota won that game in Overtime, in the regulation the game ended 89-89, but it was because the second quarter had only 28 points! It is unlikely that the same will happen in here. I think this game will be a ballgame from the beginning to the end, with both teams scoring back and forth. Take the over in here.
