COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK - Georgia + 6 over OKLAHOMA STATE - Much of the concern for Georgia backers is the loss of QB Stafford and RB Moreno to the NFL as well as the replacement of nearly half the defensive starters from last season. But Georgia does not rebuild, they reload. And under coach Richt the Bulldogs have excelled in non-SEC play and on the road. This is only the second time under Richt that Georgia has been an underdog in a regular season non-conference game! They upset Georgia Tech on the road in Richt's first season as Bulldog boss. Including SEC and Bowl games Georgia is 4-1 both straight up and ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog. Oklahoma State is developing into a solid program under coach Gundy but they are not yet at the elite level where they should be laying nearly a TD to a proven power. They lost at Georgia 35-14 to open the 2007 season. And against the elite teams within their own Big 12 conference Okie State has lost 6 straight to Oklahoma and 11 straight to Texas. Perhaps they win here but the difference between a good Big 12 program and even a rebuilding SEC elite program is too great. Georgia wins 27-20.

This game should be a god damn bloodbath. Maryland lost nearly half of its team last year. That’s not an exaggeration. They lost 45 percent of their lettermen from last year’s squad and saw 30 seniors graduate. In fact, 58 of Maryland’s players still have three years of elgibility left. That is a laughably young team. And now they are on the road, in a rowdy stadium for a night game, against an extremely veteran team with 15 returning starters, 10 senior starters, several All-American’s and a bad chip on its shoulder. All of that spells trouble and it spells blowout to me. Cal suffered a stunning 35-27 loss as a 14-point favorite last year at Maryland in a game that kicked off at 9 a.m. PST. It clearly impacted the Bears, who were down 28-6 heading into the fourth quarter. But that’s what sticks out to me. First, oddsmakers only swung the line seven points for the adjustment of venue? That seems light. Second, that means that once Cal woke up they outscored Maryland 21-7 and had several other opportunities to tie the game. Finally, when you factor in revenge and the disparity in youth and experience this one has blowout written all over it. Bears big this weekend.

4* Major Conference USA Game of the Month on UAB -5

UAB returns all 11 offensive starters, and I expect this unit, led by QB Joe Webb to torch a Rice defense which allowed 33.0 ppg last season. The Owls won 10 games last year but lost all of their offense and won't be able to answer the call. The Blazers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September while the Owls are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games in September. The Blazers are also 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games. UAB finished the season with 3 wins in its last 5 games, and nearly beat Conference USA champ East Carolina. Look for UAB to be jacked up to start the year at home and in conference play.

6-Unit Play. Take #167 Minnesota (-6.5) over Syracuse (Noon, Saturday, Sept. 5)

This is my Game of the Week. The Golden Gophers are one of the most experienced teams in the country and should be able to take advantage of a Syracuse team that is still trying to find its way. Syracuse has a new coach and a whole new system that they are working on and they are just 2-7 ATS in nonconference games and 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 home games. Minnesota is 6-1 ATS on the road. They are a much more solid and stable team and they should take care of business here. Syracuse lost 30-10 to big 10 foe Northwestern last year. I can see a similar outcome in this game.

I would have loved to get -14 on this Big Bet...But there is a reason why we won't...Because the Otfits absolutely love A&M to come out of the gate in a big way Tonight...Especially after losing to Arkansas St L/Yr to start the season...

I couldn't agree more and made my "TRUE LINE" closer to 17.5...Jerrod Johnson has 4 of his Top 5 WR's back...And 2nd Leading Rusher...They expect to have a much improved Defense this year to go along with those Offensive Weapons...And I expect them to come out and put up a great showing in the Season Opener...

This Bet got Steamed earlier in the Wee¦k...and I expect the Runners to go ahead and get a Buy Order again today...Because this is on a lot of Sharp's radars...VR
