This will be the first matchup between these two teams and we are almost in February! Clearly this is a situational play based on what the teams are performing lately, otherwise I would probably stay away from this game.

 

The Magic during this season showed some problems when facing against top defensive teams: they lost twice against Boston; they lost in Detroit and recently they lost in Miami in a great team defensive effort performed by the Heat. The question in here is: are the Cavs a top defensive team? Yes! But the real tricky question is: are the Cavs playing great defense lately? Well, the answer is no!

 

Naturally the absence of Delonte West (clearly their best defensive player on the perimeter) and center Ilgauskas is related to this fact, but the bad news is that both are out for tonight's game. In the last 5 games, the Cavs couldn't make any "decent" defensive effort in any of each game. They allowed 99 points against the Lakers and although they won all the 4 following games against the likes of the Blazers and the Jazz, all games were high scoring affairs. The most interesting fact that indicates us that the Cavs aren't playing great defense lately is the turnovers caused NOS opponents, they caused 11.6 TO/game L5 games, when their season average is 14.8 TO/game!

 

In their last game, they allowed the lowly Kings to score 110 points and even Lebron James noticed that: "Yeah, we beat Sacramento, but we played defense like the Browns with a 13-point lead." OK, Brown did not really criticize the Browns. He always speaks well of the other teams in town. However, he said "but" too many times to indicate much tolerance for a repeat of the 117-110 victory.

 

This is a huge factor for tonight's game: if the game turns into a relative high scoring game then the Magic have a big edge. Look, recently the Magic won twice against the Lakers and they beat at the road San Antonio and Denver. Last season they won the series by 3-1 against the Cavs and the over went 3-1 in those games.

 

There are also some matchups in this game that favors the Magic. Without "Z", the Cavs are playing with Varejao and Ben Wallace in the frontcourt. These two big men are good defensively, but they can't make much damage on the offensive end. This is good news for the Magic, as Dwight Howard possibly won't go into the problematic foul trouble and will be able to play major minutes.

 

Meanwhile, we already know that Lebron James will get his numbers, but don't forget that for the Magic SF Mickael Pietrus is back and he is their best defender, so the Magic will receive a big boost to limit Lebron.

 

The Magic bounced back strongly after two consecutive losses against the Pacers by connecting 15 for 33 behind the arc. I remember that Orlando is 22-7 ATS after a game where they made 12 or more 3 point shots this season and against the Cavs last season they made more than 10 treys in each game! So, I think the Cavs are playing against the Magic in a bad time and that's why I'm taking the Magic in here.

Man irgi tokia pati situacija. Galvoju apie underį, bet baisu, nes juk žaidžia vieni iš lyderių, kurių vidurkis 101 taškas per rungtynes :)
